RoK supports Laos-VN railway feasibility study

VGP - Viet Nam’s Ministry of Transport and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) have inked a Record of Discussion (RD) to conduct a feasibility study on a railway link (about 550 kilometers) from Laos's Vientiane to Vung Ang in central Ha Tinh province of Viet Nam.

October 08, 2015 2:43 PM GMT+7
After the feasibility study and the approval of substantial financing, the two governments' strong will, commitment and appropriate support will be required to implement the construction, Country Director of KOICA Viet Nam Chang Jae-yun said at the signing ceremony of the record of discussion in Ha Noi.

KOICA plans to support US$3 million in ODA grant for 3 years from 2015, with the aim of preparing a master plan and providing capacity building to the railway sector in the two countries.

With technology assistance from the Republic of Korea as a railway-developed country, the project can support Laos (a land-locked country) in the railway infrastructure toward the ocean.

It is also expected not only to help improve the living conditions of the people in Viet Nam and Laos, but also revitalize their bilateral trade and industrial economic development.
