Remarkable economic performances in nine months

Economy grows 6.5%

Official figures released on September 29 reflect a gross domestic (GDP) expansion of about 6.5% within the past nine months.

During the period, the industry and construction sector contributed most to the economy with an annual growth of 9.57%, followed by the service sector at 6.17%. The former made up 33.09% of the economic structure while the latter occupied 40.52%.

Agro-forestry-fisheries, which accounted for 16.3% of the economic breakdown, posted a negligible rise of 2.08%.

Trade deficit reaches US$3.9 billion

Viet Nam's export value till September of this year increased by nearly 10% to nearly US$120.7 billion while imports surged 16% to US$124.6 billion.

This has pushed the trade deficit to US$3.9 billion, the Ministry of Planning and Investment reported.

FDI attraction picks up sharply

As of September 20, 1,423 projects got investment licenses with a total registered capital of US$11.02 billion, up 44.5% against the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MoPI).

In the first nine months, 461 projects received additional capital of US$6.11 billion, a 72.6% surge year-on-year.

Newly-registered and additional capital totaled US$17.15 billion in the first nine months, up 53.4% against the same period last year.

Number of new enterprises surges

Over 68,000 enterprises with a combined registered capital of VND420 trillion were founded in the first nine months, up 28.5% in number and 31.4% in capital against the same period last year.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment was quoted as saying that in September, 7,042 new enterprises were formed with a total registered capital of VND 44,513 billion.

In January-September, registered capital of a new business averaged VND 6.2 billion, representing a year-on-year growth of 2.3%.

Industrial production rises 10%

The national index of industrial production rose 10% in the first nine months of this year against the same period last year.

The sectors of mechanisms and electronic equipment assembly posted a 45% growth in television output and 53% in the output of assembled automobiles, in comparison to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, output also surged by 11% for each of the sectors of electric equipment production and distribution and processing and manufacturing, 8% for mining, and 7% for water supply, waste management and treatment.

Foreign tourist arrivals number 6 million

The number of foreign visitors to Viet Nam in the first nine months of 2015 to over 5.68 million.

The country saw a dramatic rise in the number of tourists from the Republic of Korea, with 59.2%, while those from Hong Kong (China) grew by 17.3% and Singapore by 16.9%.

According to the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism, the nine-month revenues from the tourism sector reached more than VND269 trillion (US$12.22 billion), up 2.8% from the same period a year ago.
