Raising children’s awareness of climate change

VGP – The Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs today coordinated with UNICEF to hold the seminar “Improving awareness of climate change” for 126 pupils from 21 provinces. The seminar is a preparation step for the delegation of Vietnamese children who will attend the World Children Forum on Climate Change scheduled from November 28 to December 04, 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The children were introduced with concepts and issues relating to climate change, causes and impacts on environment and people’s life; climate change in Việt Nam; and impacts of climate change on children.

They also joined group dialogues on signs of climate changes in their residential areas, actions leading to climate change, solutions to mitigate impacts, and how to write short messages on climate change.

The worsening climate change is causing negative impacts on children and adolescents as well as on the Millennium Development Goals relating to children, especially in terms of health, education and gender equality.

It is now necessary to encourage children and young people to join hands in working out solutions for environment protection and coping with climate change.
