VGP - The PM has approved a project on developing the southern city of Can Tho and enhancing its capacity to adapt to climate change, which is funded by the World Bank (WB).

January 08, 2016 5:23 PM GMT+7
The project aims to develop the city sustainably, enhance its capacity to adapt to climate change, turn it into a socio-economic development center and stimulus for the Mekong Delta region, reduce vulnerability to floods in the central area and improve the transport system connecting the region.

The US$322.5 million project, in which US$250.36 million will be funded by the WB, US$10 million non-refundable capital will be aided by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and US$62.14 million will be Viet Nam’s counterpart fund, will be implemented in five years.

The outcomes are expected to help control flooding in the central area, elevate the quality and effectiveness of infrastructure, boost environmental protection and improvements in Ninh Kieu district, improve fundamental infrastructural facilities, public services’ provision and the sewage system of the district, and strengthen urban management in coping with climate change.
