Viet Nam and the UK set up diplomatic relations in 1973. This year, the two nations celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations.
In 2010, the two countries upgraded their relations into strategic partnership. After 13 years of successful implementation and growth, this partnership has taken on a global significance.
Bilateral cooperation has been intensified in various fields ranging from political–diplomatic; trade–investment; sustainable socio-economic development; security–defense; education–training; science–technology; healthcare; and people-to-people links.
Total bilateral trade in goods and services in 2022 stood at £5.9 billion (US$7.09 billion), up over 12 percent on-year.
As of November 2022, the UK was among Viet Nam's top 15 biggest investors with more than 500 projects capitalized at US$4.2 billion./.
