Vietnamese, Lao PMs meet ahead of U.S.-ASEAN Special Summit

VGP - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Lao counterpart Phankham Viphavanh pledged to continue close coordination and mutual support at international and regional forums, particularly at the UN, ASEAN and sub-regional mechanisms during their meeting ahead of the U.S.-ASEAN Special Summit in the U.S.

Both sides expressed their delight on the special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations via a number of delegation exchanges at all levels, remarkably the Lao PM's official visit to Viet Nam in recent January.

The bilateral trade value over the first quarter of 2022 saw a year-on-year increase of 19.22 percent to reach US$403.6 million, they emphasized.

The two PMs consented to continue collaboration in effectively realizing agreements reached by the two Parties and Governments, maintain high-level exchanges and promote the implementation of key projects.

They vowed to carry out activities within the framework of Viet Nam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022 and celebrate the 60th founding anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic relations and the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Laos-Viet Nam Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation.

The pair agreed to maintain solidary and ASEAN centrality in coping with current challenges in the region and the world.

The same occasion, Pham had meetings with Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Malaysian PM Dato' Sri Ismail Sabri Bin Yaakob and Thai PM Prayuth Chano-cha to discuss crucial bilateral cooperation contents as well as international and regional issues of mutual concerns.
