At a press conference held on September 7, Deputy Director of the MoIT's Department of Foreign Market Development and Multilateral Trade Ngo Chung Khanh said, since April 2025, Viet Nam and the U.S. have held seven official rounds of negotiations, along with numerous ministerial- and technical-level negotiation sessions.

To date, the two sides have basically completed almost all negotiation contents, with only a few issues remaining to be further discussed and clarified from a technical perspective, paving the way for the conclusion of the entire negotiation process.

With the close coordination of relevant U.S. agencies, particularly the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR), the two sides will soon finalize all negotiation contents so that the agreement could be signed at the earliest possible time, he shared.

Regarding the Agreement's potential impacts on Viet Nam-U.S. trade, Ngo emphasized that the U.S. is a major trading partner of Viet Nam and of paramount importance to the country's export activities.

Therefore, the conclusion of a trade agreement between the two countries will help establish a stable and balanced trade framework, promote sustainable development, and open up greater opportunities for cooperation between the two nations.

During the meeting between General Secretary and President To Lam and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer in New York on September 21, To expressed his desire to work with President Donald Trump's Administration to continue advancing the bilateral ties in a stable, substantive, effective and sustainable manner.

Economic, trade and investment cooperation still remains a key pillar of Viet Nam-U.S. relations, bringing practical benefits to people and businesses of both countries, noted the top Vietnamese leader.

He said Viet Nam has stepped up efforts to increase imports from the U.S. in a bid to promote balanced trade with the U.S.

Greer appreciated Viet Nam's efforts to balance the trade ties between the two countries. He also spoke highly of both sides' efforts in negotiations on a reciprocal, fair, and balanced trade agreement, adding that the two countries are approaching final agreement.

The signing and implementation of the agreement would help open up new cooperation opportunities between the two countries, the U.S. Trade Representative said.

According to the National Statistics Office, the U.S. remained Viet Nam's largest export market, with a value of US$140 billion over the first nine months of this year. Viet Nam ran a US$122.62 billion trade surplus with the U.S., up 23.8 per cent from a year earlier./.
