The ministry said it will especially focus such markets with high income as Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, and Germany in line with working skills and standards of Vietnamese laborers.

Director of the Overseas Labor Center Dang Huy Hong was quoted as saying that labor demand from South Korea, Japan and Germany are on the rise, with South Korea planning to employ 165,000 foreign laborers.

Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Ba Hoan suggested labor exporters seek new markets especially those with stable employment and high incomes.

He pointed to the need to step up negotiations on new memoranda of understanding on labor cooperation in a bid to ensure legitimate rights of Vietnamese guest workers.

Last year, Viet Nam sent 159,986 workers abroad, equivalent to 133.3 percent of the preset goal (110,000-120,000).

There are now around 650,000 Vietnamese workers employed in 40 countries and territories around the world. More than 500 businesses have been licensed to send workers abroad./
