Viet Nam, South Korea sign MoU on intellectual property

VGP - A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on intellectual property cooperation between Viet Nam and the South Korea was inked in Ha Noi on June 22.

Director General of National Office of Intellectual Property Dinh Huu Phi and Commissioner of the Korean Intellectual Property Office LEE Insil signed the MoU. 

The MoU will replace the previous one which was signed in 2009 with an aim to to further strengthen cooperation in trademark-related issues. 

Speaking at the event, LEE Insil said that the MoU will create an opportunity for the two agencies to exchange experience and information related to appraisal policies and practices and governance system and carry out surveys on intellectual property rights enforcement. 

Under the MoU, the two nations will share and update information on developments in intellectual property and enhance exchange of experience, policies and approaches to increase efficiency in the administration and appraisal of intellectual property.

Besides, they will also endorse mutual support for multi-lateral cooperation frameworks to which the two countries are signatories such as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) on protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights.

She hoped that following the first phase of the Korea–Viet Nam Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) pilot program, both sides will soon sign the second phase of the program./.
