Bui made the call while addressing UNHRC's 55th session in Geneva on February 26.

He said human rights could be ensured only when peace, stability, and international law is maintained and respected, and the State places its people at the center of all policies, ensuring comprehensive and sustainable development.

The UNHRC needs to give the highest priorities to people, especially in ensuring their access to economic, social, and cultural rights, the right to development and the protection of vulnerable groups, he noted.

The UNHRC should pay attention to promoting the implementation of Resolution 52/19 which was proposed by Viet Nam, especially urging countries to promote mutual respect, understanding, tolerance, inclusiveness, unity, and appreciation of differences, dialogue, and cooperation, he added.

Bui highlighted Viet Nam's efforts in protecting human rights, including reducing multidimensional poverty rate in the country to 3 percent, and spending 5 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) for social security.

If re-elected, Viet Nam will give priority to protecting vulnerable groups, promoting gender equality, enhancing digital transformation, and upholding human rights, asserted the diplomat.

At the 56th session of the UNHRC in June, Viet Nam will propose an annual resolution on ensuring human rights in the face of climate change, he said.

According to Bui, Viet Nam has submitted its national report under the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism for the fourth cycle, with nearly 90 percent of the recommendations received in 2019 being fulfilled./.
