Pham made the above statement in response to China's announcement of a fishing ban from May 1-August 16 in certain areas of the East Sea.

The diplomat said, Viet Nam requests China to respect its sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel Islands) in accordance with international law, as well as the nation's sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction over its maritime zones established in line with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).

Viet Nam calls on China to respect the rights of Vietnamese fishermen to operate legally in Viet Nam's waters and areas beyond national jurisdiction in accordance with international law, particularly UNCLOS 1982, said Pham.

The Spokesperson called for refraining from actions that may complicate the situation and contributing to maintaining peace, stability, and a rules-based order in the East Sea./.
