Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh made the above statement at a meeting with President of the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 78) Dennis Francis in New York, the U.S., on September 20.
Pham reiterated that Viet Nam attaches importance to and backs the central role of the UN in the global governance system to cope with common challenges, adding that Viet Nam commits to making active contributions to major priorities of the 78th UNGA.
Viet Nam approved the Power Development Plan VIII with strong commitments on sustainable energy development and the nation would soon announce the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) Resources Mobilization Plan, said the Prime Minister.
Viet Nam would continue rice exports, contributing to stabilizing global food security, he reassured.
Dennis Francis hailed the UN-Viet Nam relations, expressing his delight on Viet Nam's socio-economic development achievements as well as its active and dynamic role and increasing status, remarkably the nation's participation in the UN peacekeeping activities.
The same day, Pham met Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Gerd Müller.
Pham hailed efforts of the UNIDO and the Director General in supporting Viet Nam to realize three strategic breakthroughs in terms of infrastructure, human resources and institution, and building a socialist-oriented market economy.
He suggested the UNIDO assist Viet Nam in realizing its Industrial Development Strategy through 2025, with a vision to 2035, which gives priority to completing and implementing industrial policies, developing low-emission and climate-resilient industries, improving value and competitiveness of Vietnamese industries to deeply participate in the global sustainable supply chain.
The Director General said Viet Nam is one of the most successful development story and a crucial partner of the UNIDO with many cooperation programs being underway.
He vowed to support the country in energy saving and decarbonization of industry, development of food innovation systems and agricultural value chains, processing industries, and rural industries in line with Viet Nam's big priorities.
UNIDO would work closely with Viet Nam to promptly adopt the National Cooperation Program in the 2023-2027 period to formulate a basis for advancing cooperation between the two sides in the coming years, said Gerd Müller.
Gerd Müller suggested both sides explore the possibility of establishing tripartite cooperation between Viet Nam, UNIDO and a developing country./.
