Viet Nam attracts over 2.35 foreign visitors in 10 months

VGP - Viet Nam welcomed more than 2.35 million international visitors in the first ten months of this year, an 18.8-fold rise from the same period in 2021, but a sheer plunge of 83.7 per cent compared with the pre-pandemic level in 2019, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

The GSO reported that  the number of foreign visitors in October increased by 12.1 per cent from the previous month.

Of the 2.35 million visitors, up to 88.8 per cent travelled to Viet Nam by air, up 24.9 times against the same period last year, the GSO said.

The Asia was the largest source of tourists, with 1.6 million visitors, up 15.5 times compared to last year’s first ten months.

The number of European visitors increased by 27.3 times to 323,600 while there were 260,800 visitors from Americas (up 60.4 times), 106,300 visitors from Oceania (up 108.1 times), and 7,900 visitors from Africa (up seven times).

Viet Nam has completely resumed  international tourism since March 2022 and lifted all COVID-19 restrictions like requirements of COVID-19 vaccination certificates, negative tests, quarantine upon entry and medical declarations.

The tourism sector is working hard to lure more foreign holidaymakers during the peak period (which is in the latter months of the year, instead of the summer peak which is mainly preferred by domestic tourists) until April 2023.

Tourism authorities earlier this year set out the target of welcoming five million foreign visitors in 2022, which means the current number of foreign tourists hasn't even met half of this goal./.
