This is the first visit to Uruguay by a Vietnamese leader and it takes place on the occasion of the 30th founding anniversary of the two countries' diplomatic ties.

The visit demonstrates Viet Nam’s respect for and wish to strengthen its fine relation and economic and trade cooperation with Latin American countries including Uruguay.

The visit reflects the Vietnamese National Assembly’s role at multilateral parliamentary forums and its support for the government’s economic recovery effort.

Uruguay, despite its small population of only over 3 million, is the Latin American country with highest per-capita income and leading in trade liberalization among Southern Common Market (Mercosur) members.

Viet Nam and Uruguay have shared many common economic interests and showed mutual support at international forums, said Vietnamese Ambassador to Argentina and Uruguay Duong Quoc Thanh.

The Uruguay side shows the special respect to NA Chairman Hue, as the Montevideo Municipal nCouncil will award the city's title of Honorary Citizen to the top Vietnamese legislator.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade reported that, the two-way trade turnover reached US$ 190.5 million in 2022, representing a year-on-year increase of 106.5 percent in comparison with 2021./.
