Three ministries strengthen coordination to advance diplomatic tasks in new era

The agreement was reached at the 33rd Diplomatic Conference on August 3 in Ha Noi, co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense General Phan Van Giang, Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung.

The event brought together senior officials from the three ministries, as well as Vietnamese ambassadors and heads of overseas representative missions who returned home to attend the 33rd diplomatic conference.

The participants reviewed global and regional developments and discussed new requirements for Viet Nam's defense, security and foreign affairs in line with the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress. They also reviewed coordination since the three ministries signed a cooperation mechanism in December 2025 and proposed measures to further enhance its effectiveness.

Presentations highlighted the complementary roles of the three ministries in advancing the country's comprehensive foreign policy. 

The Ministry of National Defense emphasized that international defense integration and defense diplomacy form an integral part of the Party's external relations, State diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy. 

The Ministry of Public Security underscored the growing role of public security diplomacy in implementing Viet Nam's comprehensive foreign policy. 

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs outlined key achievements and priorities for strengthening inter-agency coordination in external affairs.

The three ministers stressed that defense, security and foreign affairs are closely interconnected pillars underpinning the country's development and national protection.

They noted that closer coordination reflects the Party's strategic approach of integrating socio-economic development with national defense, security and external relations.

They also highlighted that, for the first time, the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress identifies external affairs and international integration, together with defense and security, as a "key and regular task" of the entire political system.

Amid increasingly rapid and complex global developments, the ministers said stronger coordination among the three ministries is essential to support Viet Nam's goal of achieving fast and sustainable development while safeguarding national interests and protecting the country early and from afar.

They acknowledged that inter-ministerial cooperation has become more timely, closer and more effective, producing significant results across a broad range of areas.

Looking ahead, the ministers urged their ministries' units to thoroughly implement the Party and State's guidelines, effectively carry out the existing coordination mechanism with clearly defined responsibilities and focal agencies, strengthen information sharing, enhance strategic research and forecasting, improve coordination in external activities, and expand training programs to meet the evolving requirements of the country's defense, security and foreign affairs in the new stage of development./.
