The meeting took place on the sidelines the 7th China-South Asia Expo and the 27th Kunming Import and Export Fair in Yunnan province where both leaders are the guests.

Dinesh Gunawardena affirmed that the Sri Lankan Government attaches importance to developing the cooperation relations with Viet Nam.

He expressed his hope that both nations will bolster collaboration across all sectors of economy, trade, and investment, including opening a direct air route, rubber cultivation and processing, aquaculture, Buddhist cultural exchange, and spiritual tourism.

Deputy PM Tran proposed both nations increase delegation exchanges at all levels and effectively implement current bilateral cooperation mechanisms, especially the Viet Nam-Sri Lanka Joint Committee chaired by the two Ministers of Foreign Affairs.

He called on both sides to boost cooperation in economy, trade, tourism, agriculture, education-training, cultural exchanges, religions, people-to-people links and consider launching a direct flight between the two countries.

The two nations should promote close coordination at international and regional forums, especially at the UN and the Non-Aligned Movement, he said./.
