Prime Minister meets Swiss President, Cambodian counterpart in Davos

VGP - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had separate meetings with Swiss President Viola Amherd and Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet in Davos, Switzerland, on January 17 (local time), on the sidelines of the 54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF-54).

At the meeting with the Swiss President, Pham asserted that achievements in the bilateral ties over the past 50 years is a testament to the effective cooperation between the two countries and a foundation to upgrade the bilateral ties in the upcoming time.

He expressed thanks to the Swiss Government for providing official development assistance for Viet Nam, calling on more Swiss enterprises pour investment in the Southeast Asian country.

Pham called on both sides to promote collaboration in such fields like science, technology, innovation as well as security and defense.

Viola Amherd, for her part, reiterated that Viet Nam is a prioritized and top crucial partner of Switzerland in Southeast Asia.

She pledged that Switzerland will continue providing development aid for Viet Nam with over 40 valid projects across all sectors and share experience in sustainable development, education, business and innovation.

The two leaders agreed to take a flexible approach in negotiating the Viet Nam-European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Free Trade Agreement and the bilateral investment protection agreement to ensure the interests of their businesses and investors.

They vowed to step up close coordination at international and regional forums. Regarding the East Sea issue, they underlined the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation and aviation, complying with international law, resolving disputes by peaceful means in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).

The pair also stressed the need to minimize the impact of geopolitical factors on supply chains and the movement of goods.

During his meeting with the Cambodian counterpart, both leaders expected to strengthen transport connectivity between the two nations, including highways connecting Cambodia's capital city Phnom Penh and Viet Nam's southern metropolis Ho chi Minh City.

They agreed to work with Laos to boost the tourism packages under the "One Journey, Three Destinations" initiative.

Both sides also consented to promote the resolution of areas within the 16 percent of the border that has not yet been demarcated./.
