Prime Minister leaves for 42nd ASEAN Summit

VGP - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh left Ha Noi on May 9 to attend the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia, at the invitation of the Indonesian President and Chairman of the 42nd ASEAN Summit Joko Widodo.

He is accompanied by Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung, Deputy Minister of Defense Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang, Vice Chairman of the Government Office Nguyen Xuan Thanh, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan, Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Ba Hoan and Ambassador Nguyen Hai Bang, Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to ASEAN.

In a recent interview, Ambassador Nguyen Hai Bang said the Prime Minister will engage in many multilateral cooperation activities and actively contribute specific ideas to the bloc's joint efforts to build the ASEAN Community until 2025, and the ASEAN Community Vision from 2024 to 2034.

The Prime Minister will also have bilateral meetings with leaders of other ASEAN countries to strengthen bilateral cooperation. 

Since joining ASEAN, Viet Nam has always been an active and responsible member, which is ready to lead and make great contributions to the development of ASEAN, especially in community building.

Viet Nam's contributions in recent years have been appreciated and recognized by other ASEAN member countries, contributing to improving Viet Nam's position and reputation in ASEAN.

In the current context, Viet Nam's participation in this summit is of great significance, contributing to finding a common voice of ASEAN in international and regional issues of shared concern while recognizing and respecting possible differences in viewpoints and national interests among members.

With the 2023 ASEAN theme of "ASEAN Matters: Epicentre of Growth", the 42nd ASEAN Summit, scheduled to take place from May 9 to 11, reflects member countries' wish and efforts to turn the bloc into a growth epicenter that leads cooperation and connectivity processes in the region and contributes to the common goal of peace, stability, and prosperity.

On the occasion, the ASEAN leaders will hold interfaces with the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly or the AIPA, the ASEAN Youth Representatives, ASEAN Business Advisory Council or ASEAN-BAC, High-Level Task Force on the ASEAN Community's Post-2025 Vision.

A number of crucial documents in political-security, economic, and socio-cultural pillars of an integrated ASEAN Community are expected to be adopted at the summit./.
