Prime Minister hosts UN Resident Coordinator, chief representatives of UN agencies

At the meeting, Pham reiterated that Viet Nam strongly and consistently advocates multilateralism in which the UN plays the central role in promoting dialogue, cooperation, international solidarity, and adherence to the UN Charter and international law.

Viet Nam stands ready to share its experience, actively contribute more to the UN's common work and the settlement of major global issues for peace, security, cooperation, and sustainable development in the world, he noted. 

The Prime Minister held that the vision of the UN as stated in its Charter completely aligns with Viet Nam's development orientations, asserting that the UN has been a reliable and long-term friend of Viet Nam.

Viet Nam always bears in mind the UN's invaluable support over the past four decades and does its utmost to contribute to the UN activities. 

Recently, the nation has successfully undertaken the roles as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and the Vice President of the UN General Assembly's 77th session, while increasing its contributions to UN peacekeeping operations. 

The Southeast Asian country can export around 7.5 million tons of rice this year as an effort to ensure global food security, noted Pham, adding that Viet Nam is actively participating in the implementation of the UN Secretary-General's initiative on sustainable food systems transformation.

The Government chief suggested both sides enhance and create most favorable conditions to effectively implement UN-sponsored projects and programs in Viet Nam. 

He emphasized the need to review and deal with difficulties and obstacles arising in the implementation process of programs and projects, simplify procedures, and harmonizes the relevant parties' rules and plans.

Host and guest discussed specific focal points of the cooperation between Viet Nam and the UN development system in the near future, especially in helping the Southeast Asian nation successfully realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), respond to climate change, particularly in its Mekong Delta, and implement the Political Declaration on establishing the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).

The UN Resident Coordinator and chief representatives of UN agencies spoke highly of Viet Nam's proactiveness, dynamism, and active contributions to the UN as well as common works of the international community, especially food security safeguarding and peacekeeping.

They hailed the country's orientations, commitments, efforts, and development achievements over more than 35 years of reforms, affirming the commitment to fostering stronger and more effective cooperation with Viet Nam.

The UN appreciates Viet Nam's viewpoint of upholding multilateralism, UN Resident Coordinator Pauline Tamesis said, considering this as a demonstration of the shared commitment to peace, development, centering on people, happiness, prosperity, and cooperation–the pillars of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The UN's efforts in Viet Nam also aim to help with local socio-economic development and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, she shared./.
