At his meeting with Guterres in New York on Thursday, the Vietnamese Government chief affirmed Viet Nam supports and stands ready to contribute to the aforesaid process.

Pham voiced his support for Guterres' current priorities, including the UN summit of the future scheduled to take place in September 2024,  UN's new agenda for peace, and plan to accelerate sustainable development goals and climate change adaptation.

Viet Nam has been active in coordinating with UN agencies to deploy cooperation activities, especially peace-keeping operations in hotspots and energy transition, said Pham.

As one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change and saltwater intrusion, Viet Nam commits to take drastic actions to promote green transition and energy transition, said Pham, calling for international support in terms of capital, technology, training and governance for development countries.

Guterres conveyed his greetings to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Vo Van Thuong.

He expressed thanks for Viet Nam's cooperation and support for the UN's priorities, particularly for international peace and security, climate change, sustainable development, and human rights, and equitable energy transition.

Guterres shared Viet Nam's views on upholding multilateralism, sustainable promoting development, and reforming international financial institutions to better support  developing countries.

Both Prime Minister Pham and Secretary-General Guterres underscored the need to ensure compliance with international law and the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
