Prime Minister calls for upholding multilateralism at expanded BRICS summit

Pham made the above statement while addressing the expanded BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia on October 24.

From that perspective, the Vietnamese Prime Minister called on BRICS countries to take the lead in mobilizing resources for combatting climate change, for advancing the development of green economy, digital economy, circular economy, and for ensuring food security, energy security and information security.

He suggested BRICS countries boost strategic infrastructure connectivity, both hard and soft infrastructure, connect global supply chains on the basis of application of modern technologies and innovations in order to create new driving forces and expand development space for all countries.

He also called for strengthening people-to-people exchanges through cooperation in culture, education and tourism between BRICS members and other countries to build a cultural space of "unity in diversity", in which unique values are respected and the beauty of friendship and cooperation is cultivated and nurtured.

The Vietnamese Prime Minister called for reforming global governance mechanisms in an fair, effective, inclusive and comprehensive manner for fast and sustainable development. He urged BRICS countries to act stronger against political protectionism and politicization of economic, trade, scientific and technological and innovation relations.

He took the occasion to affirm Viet Nam's consistent pursuance of its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, diversification and multilateralization of external relations, being a trusted partner, an active and responsible member of the international community.

He reiterated Viet Nam's "four nos" defense policy: no partaking in military alliances, no siding with one country to act against another, no foreign military bases in the Vietnamese territory or using Viet Nam as leverage to counteract other countries, and no using force or threatening to use force in international relations.

Pham affirmed that Viet Nam stands ready to work with BRICS countries and the international community to realize the idea of working together to build a better world for all./.
