President starts official visit to Peru

The visit is made at the invitation of Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra.

The Vietnamese delegation was welcomed by officials of the Peruvian Government and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil and Peru Bui Van Nghi and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy.

The is the first-ever visit to Peru by a President of Viet Nam and it takes place on the occasion of the 30th founding anniversary of the two countries' diplomatic relations.

The visit is expected to cement and deepen the sound political foundation between the two countries while improving cooperation efficacy in potential domains.

President Luong Cuong will attend the official welcoming ceremony hosted by Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra and have talks and meetings with leaders of the government and parliament of Peru.

Peru is Viet Nam's 6th largest trading partner in Latin America, with the two-way trade reaching US$486 million in 2023 and US$389.69 million in the first nine months this year.

The Vietnamese President will also attend the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, APEC CEO Summit 2024 and informal dialogue between APEC leaders and guests.

Viet Nam officially became an APEC member at the 10th APEC Ministerial Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on November 15, 1998. This milestone was a significant step in Viet Nam's foreign policy of openness, diversification and multilateralization, and international economic integration.

Over the past 26 years as an APEC member, the Southeast Asian nation has left its imprints on regional cooperation, consistently being recognized for its active, responsible, and effective contributions to realizing the forum's goals and visions and advancing its influence./.
