President Luong Cuong made the above statement in his remarks delivered at the APEC Leaders' Informal Dialogue with Guests in Lima, Peru on November 15 (local time).
This is an important event within the framework of the APEC Economic Leaders' Week, which provides an opportunity for APEC leaders to exchange and share information to strengthen cooperation with partners inside and outside the region.
This event was attended by leaders and heads of delegations from the 21 APEC member economies and representatives from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF).
President Luong voiced his support for the viewpoint that interregional cooperation and connectivity are both an opportunity and an urgent requirement for development.
Enhancing cooperation and connectivity will help regions share knowledge, coordinate strategies, and monitor policies and resources, thereby opening up new growth opportunities, noted the Vietnamese leader.
In a bid to promote effective regional economic linkages, the President proposed three principles, including enhancing dialogue and consensus, and maintaining a peaceful environment for development; respecting international law and upholding multilateralism; and ensuring balanced, inclusive, and equitable benefits, with people and businesses at the center.
Luong underlined the need to implement selective and phased integration processes, and maximize the advantages and complementarities between regions.
He called for improving institutional frameworks and enhancing the effectiveness of existing mechanisms while unlocking resources and taking advantages of North-South, South-South, and public-private partnerships.
He suggested the need to focus on building interregional and intercommunity connections, and networks for digital transformation, green transition, trade-investment, financial-banking, people-to-people linkages and cultural exchanges.
With its favorable geographic location in Southeast Asia, modern logistics network along with the participation in large-scale free trade agreements, Viet Nam is fully capable of playing a bridging role in expanding interregional trade and connectivity, reiterated the Vietnamese leader.
In the coming period, Viet Nam, together with other ASEAN Member States, will step up cooperation between the ASEAN Economic Community and the dynamic and innovative Latin American region, shared the President./.
