Outward investment capital falls by nearly 30% in January-September period

VGP - Vietnamese investors poured US$244.8 million in 84 newly-licensed projects in the first nine months of this year, a year-on-year decrease of 29.5 percent in value, according to the Foreign Investment Agency under the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

In addition, they added nearly US$172 million in investment capital to 18 existing projects, said the agency which is responsible for overseeing inbound and outbound investment.

With the above figures, total outward investment in the reviewed period rose by 4.6 percent year-on-year to US$416 million.

Outward investment capital flew to 14 sectors, in which wholesale and retail trade took the lead with 27 projects accounting for 36.1 percent of the total outbound investment capital, followed by electricity production and distribution, agro-forestry-fishery sector, aquaculture, manufacturing and processing.

Canada was the largest recipient with total registered capital of US$150.2 million, accounting for 36 percent, followed by Singapore, Laos and Cuba.

As of September 20, 2023, Viet Nam had 1,667 active projects overseas capitalized over US$22.1 billion./.
