The new law comprises eight chapters and 63 articles.

It regulates the prevention, detection, and handling of human trafficking offences; and the reception, verification, identification, and provision of support and protection to victims of human trafficking.

It specifies the roles and responsibilities of various entities, including government agencies, organizations, families, and individuals, in the prevention and combat of human trafficking.

The law also mentions international cooperation in preventing and combating human trafficking, aligning with global efforts to address this issue.

The law is scheduled to come into effect on July 1, 2025.

In Viet Nam, human trafficking has recently changed a lot in terms of victims' gender, age, and the purpose of trafficking. While in the past, human trafficking was mainly for forced labor or sexual exploitation, recently traffickers have focused largely on forced online fraud from countries in the Mekong sub-region.

The traffickers' methods are very diverse and their tricks are very sophisticated. They mainly operate on social media and rarely have direct contact with victims, making it difficult for investigating agencies to collect and consolidate evidence.

In the first six months of this year alone, the border guards successfully carried out 12 special investigations, arrested 25 human traffickers and rescued 32 victims./.
