OAG Aviation, a global flight data provider, recently released its list of the 10 busiest domestic flight routes in Southeast Asia for August.
Viet Nam stands out with three routes making the top 10 including Ha Noi-Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Noi-Da Nang, and Da Nang-Ho Chi Minh City.
Leading the list is the Ha Noi-Ho Chi Minh City route, with a total of 949,246 seats sold in August.
The other two Vietnamese air routes were Da Nang-HCM City and Da Nang-Ha Noi, placing in fifth and seventh positions with 427,779 and 410,000 seats, respectively.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam (CAAV), Vietnamese airlines plan to conduct 4,257 flights from August 30 to September 3 to meet increasing travel demand on the occasion of the National Day holidays (September 2), up 3.5 percent year-on-year.
The figure is equivalent to an average of 840 flights per day, including 600 flights on domestic routes and 240 flights on international routes.
The number of seats for domestic routes during the period is estimated at over 600,000, surging 5 percent compared to the week before the holidays and 1.5 percent year-on-year.
The total passenger output through airports reached more than 54 million passengers in the first six months of this year, equal to 97 percent compared to the same period last year, statistics of the CAAV showed.
In terms of the domestic market alone, Vietnamese airlines transported more than 17 million domestic passengers in the past six months, equal to 82 percent compared to the same period in last year.
Viet Nam Airlines and Vietjet Air are the two airlines with the largest domestic market shares with 42 percent and 44 percent, respectively, followed by Bamboo Airways (7 percent), Vietravel Airlines (3 percent), Pacific Airlines and Vasco (4 percent).
The seat utilization ratio on domestic routes has been maintained at over 80 percent and on international routes at over 70 percent./.
