Following the welcome ceremony, General Secretary and President To Lam and his spouse, together with the King and Queen of Denmark, lay a wreath at a memorial in Copenhagen.

The State visit by General Secretary and President To Lam to Denmark took place on the occasion of the 55th founding anniversary of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and Denmark.

Building on the friendship, political trust, and effective cooperation over the past 55 years, the visit offers an important opportunity for both sides to chart strategic orientations for a new development stage and advance Viet Nam-Denmark relations as a model for Viet Nam's partnership with a Nordic country.

Denmark was among the first Western countries to establish diplomatic relations with Viet Nam in 1971 and has remained an important partner of Viet Nam over 55 years. Bilateral relations have been continuously consolidated, expanded and elevated to new heights, notably with the establishment of the Comprehensive Partnership in 2013 and the Green Strategic Partnership in 2023.

During the visit, both sides are expected to further strengthen political trust, identify long-term cooperation orientations and priorities, and advance bilateral ties in an increasingly comprehensive and substantive manner.

It is also expected to provide fresh impetus for cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment, science and technology, and innovation, in line with the development priorities and requirements of both countries.

Viet Nam is entering a new stage of development, accelerating its transition to a growth model driven by science, technology, innovation and digital transformation, while promoting green transition and sustainable development. These are areas in which Denmark has considerable strengths.

The two countries have complementary strengths and significant potential for cooperation, creating opportunities to expand collaboration beyond experience and policy sharing to investment, technological research and development, and high-quality human resource training. Such cooperation could generate new products, solutions and drivers of growth.

Denmark has emerged as one of the EU's leading investors in Viet Nam and stands out among Nordic countries for its high-quality investment and green development. Major Danish companies have invested in Viet Nam, particularly in areas such as seaports and maritime transport.

Earlier, F-35 fighter jets of the Royal Danish Air Force flew alongside and escorted the special aircraft carrying General Secretary and President To Lam and his spouse to Copenhagen. Danish pilots performed several maneuvers as a gesture of welcome. The fighter jets escorted the aircraft for approximately 30 minutes before departing as it approached Copenhagen Airport.

The deployment of fighter jets to escort the Vietnamese leader's aircraft reflects the high regard that the Danish Royal Family offers to General Secretary and President To Lam and his spouse, as well as to the visit.

The gesture represents a high level of diplomatic protocol, likened to a "red carpet in the sky," alongside other measures to ensure the security and safety of the flight carrying Viet Nam's top leader.

The distinguished welcome also underscored the historic significance of the visit, as it marks the first time a General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam has visited Denmark since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1971.

It is also the first State visit hosted by Denmark in 2026, according to information published by the Danish Royal House./.
