The Party Central Committee elected State President To Lam as the country's Party General Secretary for the 2021-2026 term at an extraordinary conference on August 3.
To Lam, born in 1957, is a Party Central Committee member for its 11th-13th tenures and a Politburo member for the 12th-13th tenures. He is also a National Assembly member for its 14th-15th terms.
He was Deputy Minister of Public Security from 2010-2016; and Minister of Public Security from April 2016 to May 22, 2024, when he was elected by the National Assembly as the country's President./.
