A technical assistance agreement to this project was signed recently between Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Quoc Phuong and Director of the French Development Agency (AFD) in Viet Nam Hervé Conan.

The first phase of the project involves funding a feasibility study for the extension, followed by updates to Ha Noi's urban transport master plan and enhancement of management capabilities.

Following the extension, Metro Line 3, which originally spans 12.5 kilometers between Nhon Station in Bac Tu Liem District and Ha Noi Railway Station in Dong Da District, will be expanded by 8.7 kilometers from Ha Noi Railway Station to Hoang Mai District.

This expansion of Metro Line 3 is meant to address critical infrastructure, transportation, and environmental challenges arising from rapid urbanization in Ha Noi.

The extended project will be implemented with ODA loans sourced from the Asian Development Bank, AFD and KfW Development Bank of Germany and the counterpart capital of the Vietnamese government which is estimated at VND6.28 trillion (US$247 million)./.
