The 60 km expressway with total investment of more than VND11 trillion (US$432.3 million) is expected to be completed in 2026.
It will connect with Dong Dang-Tra Linh Expressway and six border gates in Lang Son and Cao Bang provinces.
Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that the Huu Nghi-Chi Lang Expressway would open up a new space for development and consolidate the economic and transportation linkages between the northern mountainous areas and the Red River Delta.
The sub-project will also help boost traffic and economic connections between ASEAN and China, Viet Nam, said Pham.
He tasked the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Transport and other relevant agencies to work with the northern province of Lang Son to implement the project with good quality.
Pham urged Lang Son province to work with investors to optimize resources and reduce impacts on the environment and people’s livelihoods./.
