5G Network to cover over 99 percent of Viet Nam's population by 2030

According to the "Accelerating 5G in Viet Nam" report by the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA), Viet Nam ranks among Asia's most dynamic and rapidly developing nations, with digital transformation occurring across multiple sectors.

The successful auction of 2.6 GHz and 3.5 GHz spectrum bands for 5G in 2024 has paved the way for commercial 5G deployment in Viet Nam.

Mobile market growth has been substantial, with mobile broadband penetration reaching 120.5 percent in Q2 2024, up from 11.5 percent in 2010. By late 2023, 3G and 4G coverage reached 99.9 percent of the population.

5G services, available in select areas of Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City, and other cities since 2023, have seen rapid nationwide expansion in 2024.

GSMA forecasts over 90 million 5G connections in Viet Nam by 2030, covering more than 99 percent of the population.

Major carriers Viettel, VNPT, and Mobifone have been deploying 5G services across various locations since 2019, with commercial 5G officially launching on October 15, 2024.

Globally, 285 operators across 114 countries have deployed 5G networks as of Q2 2024, with Fixed Wireless Access services available from 136 operators in 66 countries.

Global 5G connections exceeded 1.6 billion in 2023 and are expected to surpass 2 billion in 2024, showing an impressive 30 percent subscriber growth rate.

Enterprise 5G applications are increasingly prevalent across industries, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.
