Prime Minister tasks Viettel Group to develop semiconductor chip industry
VGP – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh tasked the Military Industry and Telecommunications Group (Viettel) to develop semiconductor chip industry.
The Government chief delegated the task to Viettel during his tour to the military economic group on Tuesday.
Semiconductor chip manufacturing capabilities are currently limited to very few regions in the world. Viet Nam is determined to pursue and develop the semiconductor industry, build an ecosystem for this industry.
Several major electronics and semiconductor corporations have plans to expand investment in Viet Nam, such as Intel, Samsung, Amkor, Qualcomm, Infineon, Marvell, and Hana Micron.
The Southeast Asian country plans to issue a strategy for the development of the semiconductor industry and a project to train 50,000 engineers in this field.
Pham, who was accompanied by Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang during the tour, also urged the Ministry of National Defense to direct relevant units to promote the development of defense industry capable of effectively serving the revolutionary tasks and goals in the new context./.
