Prime Minister suggests Viet Nam, Philippines boost rice trade
VGP - Viet Nam and the Philippines should boost bilateral trade, especially in rice and high-value farm products.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh made the above statement in his meeting with Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on November 10. Both of them are in Cambodia for the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and Related Summits.
Pham congratulated Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos on his election as President of the Philippines for the 2022-2028 term.
He conveyed the invitations of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Nguyen Xuan Phuc to Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos to visit Viet Nam.
He suggested the Philippines creates favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to lead a stable life in the country.
For his side, Marcos expressed his pleasure to welcome the upcoming visit to the Philippines by Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue.
He emphasized the need for both countries to bolster cooperation in such fields of economic-trade-investment, security-defense, particularly maritime cooperation, education-training, labor, culture, tourism, local-to-local exchange, and people-to-people exchange.
The two countries should also step up exchanges and sharing experience in energy security, climate change adaption, digital transformation, high-tech as well as supporting each other to overcome consequences of natural disasters and diseases, the Philippine President said.
Marcos took the occasion to invite the Vietnamese Prime Minister to pay an official visit to the Philippines at an appropriate time.
Both leaders spoke highly of the strong development in the bilateral trade value which reached US$6.8 billion in 2021 and US$5.4 billion in the first eight months of 2022.
They agreed to enhance delegation exchanges at all levels to further strengthen the Viet Nam-Philippines Strategic Partnership more intensively and substantively.
Regarding international and regional issues of common concerns, Viet Nam and the Philippines need to increase consultation and actively advocate each other at international and regional organizations, especially ASEAN and the UN, the two leaders highlighted.
They vowed to continue backing each other and maintaining solidarity and centrality of ASEAN.
Both sides reiterated the two countries' consistent policy of abiding by the principle of handling disputes via peaceful measures in line with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982)./.
