Guterres said his meetings with Vietnamese leaders, including Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, at international conferences have become a tradition in the relations between Viet Nam and the United Nations.
Pham appreciated Secretary-General Guterres and the United Nations agencies in promoting sustainable development and maritime cooperation.
He expressed his appreciation for the United Nations' assistance for Viet Nam's renewal process over the past nearly four decades.
Viet Nam will continue to support multilateralism and international law, contributing to the global efforts in strengthening dialogue and cooperation and reform of the United Nations, Pham affirmed.
He suggested the United Nations continue assistance for Viet Nam to develop marine economy, enhance resilience and response capacity to natural disasters, climate change, and energy transition.
Guterres congratulated on Viet Nam's socio-economic development achievements, saying Viet Nam is a model of peace and sustainable development, contributing to raising the voice and role of developing countries.
He expects to collaborate closely with Viet Nam in implementing the major outcomes of the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference for peace, stability, inclusive and sustainable development across the globe.
The two sides agreed to further bolster ASEAN-United Nations relations, promote the bridging role of ASEAN in beefing up dialogue and cooperation in the context of complex developments in the world and the region with many emerging contradictions and conflicts.
Guterres said that he will visit Viet Nam and co-chair the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybersecurity in Ha Noi in October this year./.
