Prime Minister orders end to power shortage in June
VGP – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered competent authorities to end power shortage in June this year.
The order was made as localities in Northern Viet Nam have suffered power outages over the past days due to critically low water levels at reservoirs, prompting hydropower plants to operate under capacity.
In addition, some coal-fired power plants in the Northern region had to stop operation for maintenance and repair.
The Government chief also tasked the Ministry of Industry and Trade to accelerate the progress of Quang Trach II coal-fired power plant project with a designed capacity of 1,200MW.
The above-mentioned project is expected to be converted to using LNG before 2030 as part of the Government's effort to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 as committed at the COP26.
The ministry is also responsible for designing mechanisms and policies to encourage investments in the development of roof-top solar power on office buildings and residential houses.
