Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh congratulated Timor-Leste on its admission as a new member of the bloc at the 47th ASEAN Summit scheduled to take place in October this year.

Pham suggested the two countries maintain exchanges and contacts at all levels and engage in discussions to reach cooperation agreements in areas of mutual interest such as economy, trade, investment, agriculture, rice trade, e-government, and digital transformation.

He also proposed the Timor-Leste Government create favorable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises, particularly those in telecommunications and oil and gas, to invest and do business in the country.

In reply, the Timor-Leste's Prime Minister expressed admiration for Viet Nam's remarkable socio-economic achievements and offered heartfelt thanks for supporting Timor-Leste to become an official member of ASEAN.

He affirmed that Timor-Leste attaches special importance to and wishes to further strengthen comprehensive cooperation with Viet Nam.

The two leaders agreed to further cement and deepen bilateral relations in the time ahead, building on the outcomes of President José Ramos-Horta's visit to Viet Nam from July 31 to August 3, 2024./.
