VGP - Prime Minister Le Minh Hung left Ha Noi on Thursday morning for Cebu, the Philippines to participate in the 48th ASEAN Summit and related Summits.

The two-day tour is made at the invitation of Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr, Chair of ASEAN in 2026.
He is accompanied by Minister, Chairman of the Government Office Dang Xuan Phong; Deputy Minister of National Defense Nguyen Van Gau; Deputy Minister of Public Security Le Van Tuyen; Vice Chairman of the Government Office Don Tuan Phong; Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang, Head of ASEAN SOM-Viet Nam; Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang; among others.
This is Le's first overseas trip in his capacity as head of the Government, and also the first multilateral conference that he has attended in person.
The summit attracts the participation of ASEAN leaders and the ASEAN Secretary-General.
It is one of the two regular annual meetings of ASEAN leaders in 2026 and serves as an important occasion for them to exchange comprehensive assessments of the global and regional situation, while reaching on strategic directions and measures to strengthen ASEAN cooperation.
Discussions on three issues will be focused on, including ensuring energy security, food security, and the protection of ASEAN citizens.
The participation of the Vietnamese leader demonstrates the nation's consistent implementation of its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, self-strengthening, peace, friendship, cooperation, and development, as well as diversification and multilateralization of external relations in line with the 14th National Congress of the Party.
It also reaffirms that ASEAN remains a top strategic priority in Viet Nam's overall foreign policy.
The tour conveys a clear message of Viet Nam's commitment to the ASEAN Community-building process, with a spirit of proactiveness, positivity, responsibility, and substantive, effective contributions to the common work of the bloc./.
