Prime Minister calls on ASEAN to embrace new technologies
VGP - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called on businesses to pioneer in science and technology, innovation and digital transformation so that ASEAN can embrace emerging technologies.

Pham made the call while delivering remarks at a working lunch on February 26 within the framework of the 2nd ASEAN Future Forum 2025.
Under the motto: "A Future-ready ASEAN: Harnessing the Power of Emerging Technologies," the working lunch draw the attendance of New Zealand's Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, Lao Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith and Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavanh Phomvihane, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Timor-Leste; and representatives of leading international and Vietnamese technology groups such as Intel, Nvidia, Google, MK, Huawei, Viettel, and Sovico.
Pham stressed that ASEAN Member States must have strong political determination and take decisive actions to seize new technological trends.
He underscored the importance of harmonizing its institutions, consolidating connectivity, forge an open institutional environment for businesses and citizens, and reducing compliance costs.
The bloc is seeking new technologies, high-quality human resources, the development of new technological infrastructure, and smart governance with the application of new technologies. Thus, it requires support and cooperation from the global community, especially from major technology corporations.
New Zealander Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said that his country stands ready to shake hands with ASEAN countries and bloc's businesses in various sectors including AI, space industry, agriculture, clean energy, and climate change mitigation, highlighting New Zealand's potential and strengths in these areas.
British Ambassador to Viet Nam Iain Frew reiterated the UK's willingness to work with ASEAN countries in scientific and technological innovation as well as financial expertise.
During the event, the participants focused on ASEAN’s opportunities and challenges in the new technological period such as infrastructure development, human resources, AI, cloud computing, as well as the promotion of inclusive digital finance and clean energy transition./.
