The Government leader delivered his remarks in a pre-recorded video message sent to the opening ceremony of the 16th session of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD16) on October 20.

The Prime Minister stated that people must be placed at the center, as the subject, the resource, the driving force, and the ultimate goal of development, adding that all policies should aim toward human development.

Science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation should serve as the foundation, while environmental protection and social security should be the main driving forces to ensure sustainable development, emphasized the Vietnamese leader.

The world must ensure a fair, transparent, and rules-based international order, considering it a prerequisite for peace, stability, cooperation, development, and shared prosperity for all people, he emphasized.

The Prime Minister underlined the need to reform and strengthen trust in multilateralism, enhance international cooperation, and work together to promote strong and effective reforms of the multilateral trade and financial systems toward openness, fairness, inclusiveness, and the benefit of all nations.

Viet Nam pursues a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, and multilateralization, being a good friend and a reliable partner to all countries around the world, as well as a responsible member of the international community, stated Pham.

The Prime Minister voiced Viet Nam's steadfast support for the central role of the UN in maintaining a peaceful environment, fostering cooperation, and addressing global and inclusive issues, including trade, investment, and sustainable and inclusive development.

The UNCTAD16 is being held from October 20-23, hosted by the Government of Switzerland, under the theme "Shaping the future: Driving economic transformation for equitable, inclusive and sustainable development".

The conference convenes ministers of trade and economy, leaders of international organizations, representatives of civil society, the private sector, youth and renowned experts to engage in high-level dialogue on global trends and policy perspectives on trade, finance and debt, investment, development and the digital economy./.
