Prime Minister attends 18th East Asia Summit
VGP - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called on nations to create new momentum for inclusive growth and sustainable development while attending the 18th East Asia Summit (EAS) in Jakarta, Indonesia, on September 7.
Pham underscored the stature and strategic value of the EAS as a platform where leaders hold dialogue and put forward orientations for peace, security, cooperation and prosperity in the region and the world, to promote cooperation, solve conflicts and raise awareness to get closer together.
The Vietnamese Prime Minister called for shaping a regional structure that is open, inclusive, transparent and based on international law.
It is necessary to create new impetus for inclusive growth and sustainable development through market opening, introduction of clear policies as well as strategic, and long-term vision in order to make EAS the center of trade and supply chains.
Pham highlighted the need for transforming economic structures, towards building digital, green, and circular economy, and sharing economy.
Looking towards the future, it is necessary to consider peace, stability and development cooperation as goals, and dialogue and cooperation as tools, noted Pham, adding that the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), the Treaty of Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone (SEANWFZ Treaty), and the Declaration of the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) are effective tools to ensure the common goals of peace, stability, and prosperity in Southeast Asia.
The Prime Minister called on all countries to boost international solidarity, uphold multilateralism to solve global issues such as epidemics, climate change, resource depletion, and work together to resolve disputes and conflicts by peaceful means based on international law.
The summit saw the participation of leaders from the ASEAN Member States, China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia, New Zealand, India, Russia, and the U.S./.
