He is accompanied by Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan, Deputy Minister of Public Security Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Le Cong Thanh, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet, Vice Chairman of the Government Office Nguyen Xuan Thanh, Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Xuan Sang and Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Hoang Giang.

With the theme "Innovation and Cooperation for a Water Secure and Sustainable Mekong", the conference focuses on discussing orientations and directions related to the development and management in the Mekong River basin, and agreements and plans to achieve the outcomes of the Mekong River Basin Development Strategy in 2021-2030.

The Vientiane summit would be a good occasion for the member countries and partners to discuss and work towards their cooperation targets in the use, development, and protection of water resources and related issues in a sustainable manner for the sake of the member countries and welfare for basin residents.

The summit is also a chance to step up the realisation of the member countries’ highest political commitments to effectively implement the 1995 Mekong Agreement and the MRC’s functions; analyse and assess challenges and opportunities related to water resources, including the sustainable development and environmental management in the basin; devise orientations for basin development and management; and reach consensus on the agreements and plans for implementing the Basin Development Strategy for 2021 - 2030, according to the ambassador.

Prime Minister Pham's participation in the summit affirms Viet Nam’s role and sense of responsibility to help boost the effective implementation of the 1995 Mekong Agreement and promote the contents matching Viet Nam’s interests and important to the common and sustainable development in the basin, said Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung./.
