PM calls on int’l community to voice support for VN

At the World Economic Forum on East Asia 2014 in Manila, the Philippines on May 22, PM Nguyen Tan Dung said peace and stability, including peace, security, safety and freedom of navigation in the East Sea, are the prerequisites for development.

He especially highlighted that the situation in the East Sea is very serious due to China’s illegal installation of the drilling rig Haiyang Shiyou 981 in Viet Nam’s waters.

PM Dung affirmed that Viet Nam will resolutely defend its sovereignty and waters with peaceful measures in accordance with international law.

PM Dung thanked and called on ASEAN, other countries and friends around the world to continue their support for Viet Nam to protect its national sovereignty and legitimate interests in line with international law.

PM meets with WEF Chairman

PM Nguyen Tan Dung met with Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum Klaus Schwab on the sidelines of the WEF on East Asia.

Viet Nam is completing its mechanisms and transforming its growth model to establish an economy with high competitiveness closely tied with social fairness and progress, said the PM.

Mr. Klaus Schwab expressed his concerns about issues in the East Sea, expecting that the forum will be a political dialogue channel to discuss these matters.

The same day, PM Dung met with Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Philippines Feliciano Belmonte and Senate President Franklin M.Drilon.

VN condemns fatal explosions in China’s Urumqi

Viet Nam strongly condemns the fatal terrorist attacks in Urumqi, China and extends deepest condolences to Chinese people and the bereaved of the victims, said Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry Le Hai Binh.

He believed that the culprits will be severely punished.

DPM Ninh meets foreign business associations in Dong Nai

Deputy PM Vu Van Ninh met with the foreign business associations in southern Dong Nai Province.

Executives of Taiwanese, Japanese and Korean businesses in Dong Nai Province said they are contented with the authorities’ reactions to stabilize the situation, security and order to help businesses resume their production.

As of April 22, 98% of the total 166 affected enterprises has re-operated. On May 26, all of the businesses will resume their activities.

Deputy PM Ninh confirmed that the Government will cooperate with local authorities to tackle difficulties for these enterprises and help them restore their works.

Binh Duong: 259 people brought to trial following riots

Police from the southern province of Binh Duong have brought legal proceedings against 259 people allegedly involved in recent disturbances in the locality.

The police and authorized agencies are preparing to bring to trial other suspects who were also involved in the disturbances in local industrial parks recently.

May’s CPI: HN down, HCM City up

The May consumer price index (CPI) for Ha Noi was down by 0.07% from the previous month. Analysts at the Municipal Statistics Office attributed the slight decrease to weak demand.

Two groups, telecommunications and drugs and medical devices, posted a slight decreased of 0.1%.

In contrast, foodstuffs and dining-out services rose 0.71% against April.

France to pour first non-sovereign loans in VN

The French Agency for Development (AFD) will provide eligible Vietnamese businesses and organizations with EUR113 million in loans and non-refundable aid this year, as part of its non-sovereign package launched in Viet Nam for the first time. 

In 2010, AFD offered a trial loan package of US$100 million to Huoi Quang hydropower plant, managed by the Electricity of Viet Nam.
