President Long Cuong meets Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru
VGP – President Luong Cuong met with Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru on the sidelines of the APEC Economic Leaders' Week in Lima, Peru on November 16 (local time).
Ishiba congratulated Luong Cuong upon his election as the President of Viet Nam, emphasizing that Viet Nam remains a priority partner of Japan in the region.
Luong congratulated Ishiba upon his election as the Prime Minister of Japan, reassuring that Viet Nam regards Japan as one of trustworthy, important and long-term partners and supports Japan's active contributions to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
The two leaders expressed their pleasure at the fruitful implementation of the Viet Nam-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World.
Regarding major cooperation orientations in the coming time, President Luong suggested both sides strengthen political trust, step up annual high-level meetings, promote substantive defense and security cooperation through fruitful implementation of the signed cooperation agreements.
Luong called on the two sides to strengthen economic cooperation – the key pillar of the bilateral ties, expand comprehensive cooperation to new fronts such as digital transformation and green transition.
He also suggested Japan assist Viet Nam in training semiconductor engineers with university degrees or higher through 2030.
Ishiba agreed with Luong's proposals, affirming that he will direct ministries and agencies to concretize the new relationship framework between the two countries.
The Japanese Government will continue policies to encourage and support foreign communities, including Vietnamese people to live, study and work conveniently in Japan.
The two leaders affirmed to continue close coordination in regional and international issues of common concern in order to make active contributions to the maintenance of peace, stability and development in the region and the world.
Both sides agreed to strengthen collaboration at multilateral forums and international organizations such as the United Nations, APEC, ASEAN and Mekong./.
