President starts two-day official visit to Laos

VGP - President Vo Van Thuong is set to leave Ha Noi on Moday for a two-day official visit to Laos at the invitation of Lao's Party General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith.

President of Viet Nam Vo Van Thuong

This is the first foreign visit of Vo since he became President of Viet Nam in March this year.

He is accompanied by Chief of the Presidential Office, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat, Deputy Minister of National Defense Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Minister of Public Security Tran Quoc To, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Quoc Phuong, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son, and Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung.

Viet Nam and Laos established diplomatic relations in September 1962 and both countries have maintained their great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation.

Viet Nam has 219 active investment projects in Laos with total registered capital of around US$4.3 billion, ranking third after China and Thailand.

The two-way trade increased by more than 25 percent to nearly US$1.7 billion last year./.
