VGP – Over the past more than three decades, APEC has not only been a driving force for global growth but also pioneering in disaster response management, clean energy development, conservation of biodiversity.

State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc attends the virtual APEC CEO Summit 2021, November 11, 2021.

The Vietnamese State leader made the above statement on November 11 while addressing the APEC CEO Summit 2021 which drew the participation of 4,500 business leaders and Prime Ministers from New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Thailand and Germany, and the Presidents from Indonesia, the Republic of Korea and Peru.

The summit discusses such topics like state of the world with post COVID-19, digital disruption opportunity, primacy of trust, future of energy, and sustainability imperative.

President Nguyen affirmed that sustainable climate-resilient development is an issue of strategic importance as well as a common responsibility of all countries, economies and businesses.

In its policy, each State needs to pursue long-term interest, and promote a comprehensive approach. All states, given their leading role, should avoid doing the work of other actors in the society. They instead should encourage the formulation of suitable institutions and benefits to mobilize resources from businesses and the people, and build upon public - private projects for green growth, according to Nguyen.

Giving several recommendations to enterprises, he said each business needs to develop a roadmap to cut emissions in line with the greenhouse gas emission goals and indexes of their respective countries; invest in the future by focusing on projects in clean energy and new technology development; and establish green supply chains and encourage environmentally-friendly behaviors by consumers.

Nguyen suggested the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) set up a guideline for promotion of APEC sustainable business.

At the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conferences of the Parties (COP26), Viet Nam committed to taking stronger measures to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, the Vietnamese President highlighted.

“In this process, Viet Nam looks forward to the closer cooperation with APEC member economies, countries, and businesses at home and abroad. Apart from further improving its business and investment environment, Viet Nam is also offering incentives for enterprises to seize the opportunities to provide green products and services. In addition, Viet Nam is also ameliorating its institutions and policies pertaining to green and innovative corporations, and eco-industrial parks,” he remarked.
