Positive views on VN-China sea issue settlement principles

VGP - Foreign press agencies have made positive comments on an agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea-related issues signed recently by Việt Nam and China.

October 13, 2011 3:53 PM GMT+7

BBC (British) on October 12 reported that the agreement covers 6 basic principles, including conducting periodical meetings between heads of government-level border negotiation delegations twice a year, and establishing a hotline mechanism between the government-level delegations to exchange and properly deal with sea-related issues in a timely manner.

AFP (France) stated that Việt Nam and China have reached consensus on solving sea-related issues satisfactorily and pledges to strengthen sea cooperation in less sensitive issues such as environmental protection and scientific research.

AP (America) assumed that the agreement is a step forward the two countries’ efforts to boost the bilateral ties.

RFI (France) said China has pledged to peacefully solve sea disputes with Việt Nam, elaborating that the agreement is a progress and an active step forward.

Being interviewed by RFI, Professor Carl Thayer, an expert on Việt Nam and the Việt Nam-China relations, noted that the agreement is a new step in their border negotiation progress.
