Positive political changes gained in DR Congo
VGP – Ambassador Hoàng Chí Trung, at the Thursday meeting of the UNSC on the UN Organization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUC), lauded the DRC Government’s signing of the peace agreement with the National congress for the Defence of the People (CNDP) on March 23, considering it an important step toward national reconciliation.

The Vietnamese representative highly appreciated the improved bilateral ties and cooperation between the DRC and Rwanda. He also hailed the intermediary role of Mr. Olusegun Obasanjo, the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for the Great Lakes region, in bettering the security and political situations, settling humanitarian difficulties and promoting socio-economic development in the DRC.
Mr. Trung stated that Việt Nam supports the MONUC’s operations, especially its strategic plan on assessing process in the country.
He hoped that the DRC Government will continue to closely work with MONUC and other UN agencies, so as to fruitfully implement its activities for peace, stability and development of the DRC and the Great Lakes region.
