Reviewing the development of the ASEAN-India relations, the PM stated that as a coordinating country for ASEAN-India strategic partnership, Viet Nam and ASEAN countries are proud of the strong development of bilateral ties over the past 25 years, as well as India’s active involvement in regional issues.

Viet Nam has been doing its utmost to join other ASEAN nations in implementing the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 in association with India’s Look East policy, he emphasised.

PM Phuc put forwards three major focuses for ASEAN-India cooperation in the time ahead, including the strengthening of trade and investment cooperation, considering this as a main driver for ASEAN-India strategic partnership; the consolidation of infrastructure and digital connectivity and people-to-people exchange; and the enhancement of cooperation in ensuring peace and stability in the region and combating both traditional and nontraditional security challenges.

Discussing maritime cooperation and security, the Vietnamese leader suggested that both sides strengthen coordination in order to ensure the rule of law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS); facilitate trust-building cooperation via joint measures in response to challenges at sea; give priority to developing the green sea economy; and promoting inter-regional cooperation between the Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean.
