PM receives former Japanese PM Yukio Hatoyama

PM Dung spoke highly of the guest’s presence at the summit and his important contributions to enhancing bilateral ties between the two countries in all fields, particularly IT sector.
Viet Nam has built a strategy on becoming stronger in IT, attaching importance to IT applications in all aspects of life and considering IT as a crucial solution to improve the economy’s competitiveness and national governance capacity, PM Dung said.
He expressed his hope that Hatoyama will continue enhancing IT cooperation between the two countries, experience sharing and IT applications in education, health care, transportation, agriculture, fisheries, residential and urban management.
PM Dung expressed his pleasure with positive developments of the Viet Nam – Japan strategic partnership and friendship, particularly a 3.5-fold increase in two-way trade from US$8.5 billion a decade ago to nearly US$30 billion and expected to reach US$50 billion by 2020.
Japan is also the largest investor in Viet Nam with over 2,400 projects worth US$37 billion and the biggest supplier of official development assistance, valued at over US$25 billion over the past 20 years.
PM Dung expressed his gratitude to Hatoyama’s contributions to enhancing bilateral relations when he held the post of Japanese PM while hoping that he will continue to make further contributions to boosting the relations in the future.
Hatoyama expressed his impression on socio-economic achievements of Viet Nam and the sound development of Viet Nam – Japan relations.
He noted that Japan is willing to share IT experience with Viet Nam, especially in regards to its applications in agriculture, fisheries, transportation, smart city building, e-government and e-customs.
The guest pledged to promote the partnership to help Viet Nam bring IT into farming, fisheries and enterprises and revealed that he will lead several business delegations to Viet Nam to seek cooperation opportunities later this year.
He added that he would also foster bilateral cooperation in labour, vocational training and sports.
