The Prime Minister made the point today in Ha Noi at a reception for visiting President of the Cambodian Senate Samdech Say Chhum who is on an official visit to Viet Nam from October 24-26.

Prime Minister Pham warmly welcomed Senate President Samdech Say Chhum and the Cambodian high-ranking delegation to Viet Nam on the occasion of the 55th founding anniversary of two countries' diplomatic relations (June 24, 1967).

He was convinced that the visit would churn out positive outcomes, making positive contributions to cementing and spurring the sound neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-standing stability between the two countries.

Striving for remaining 16 percent of border demarcation

Viet Nam appreciated the contributions of Cambodia in its capacity as Chair of ASEAN and AIPA 2022, said the Government chief.

He believed that the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and AIPA-43 slated for November in Phnom Penh would be a success, making important contributions to building the ASEAN Community and improving Cambodia’s international reputation and position.

The Prime Minister highly spoke of the two countries’ close cooperation to successfully host meaningful events in the Viet Nam - Cambodia Friendship Year 2022, especially the 45th anniversary of the path of toppling the Pol Pot regime which was co-chaired by the two Prime Ministers on June 20 in Binh Phuoc-Tbong Khmom provinces, and the 55th founding anniversary of the diplomatic ties between Viet Nam and Cambodia on June 24 in Ha Noi.

He suggested the two legislative bodies promote the bilateral ties, especially in legal building in order to create a favorable legal corridor in all areas and spur the supervision of the implementation of the agreements signed by the two countries.

In reply, President Samdech Say Chhum said that in the context of complicated and unpredictable upheavals in the world, the two countries need to continue to preserve and constantly strengthen the friendship, solidarity, trust, and solid relationship to overcome difficulties together, closely coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the two-way trade reached US$9.5 billion in 2021, up nearly 80 percent y-o-y. In the first nine months of 2022, bilateral trade rose by 16.7 percent on year to US$8.45 billion.

So far, Viet Nam has 198 FDI valid projects in Cambodia with a total registered capital of US$2.92 billion, ranking first among ASEAN member states and fifth among countries and territories doing business in Cambodia.  It is also Cambodia's largest tourist source.

Prime Minister Pham suggested both sides complete the remaining 16 percent of border demarcation and marker planting.

Pham also urged both sides to work with other ASEAN member states to maintain solidarity, unity and affirm the ASEAN’s central role over regional strategic issues including the East Sea./.
